While it is nice to love close to the mountains, sometimes it has a price. Several wildfires are burning in Colorado right now. A few days ago I took a short drive to Rocky Mountain Metropolitan airport where a lot of the slurry bombers are. With the fires as bad as they are we are receiving help from all over. Just a few shots of some of the tankers and the grasshoppers trying to get control of our fires. Normally on a clear day, you can see Pikes Peak in the background of downtown, but not will all the smoke making its way up from the south.
Beautiful Hudson Gardens. One of the most relaxing places you can find to just stroll among the flowers. So many flowers to see and a few little bunnies too. This place is beautiful in the summer and the lights during the holidays make it a favorite place to visit.
Memorial Day weekend and time to take a relaxing train ride through the Royal Gorge along the Arkansas River. It is always fin to see the white water rafters and the spectacular view of the Royal Gorge Bridge high above.
The Wild Animal Sanctuary - a wonderful place that houses mistreated wild animals. There are lions, tigers, bears, wolves, mountain lions, panthers and even a few porcupine. You can see all of these animals and one of the best things is that you walk above them so you don't disrupt them. Some of these animals now have more room to roam and play then they have ever had in their lives. The bears were playful while the lions and tigers were more interested in sleeping. It is just the best place to go to see these animals have a second chance at living the lives they were meant to live.
The Denver Botanic Gardens has two sites: one in the city and one at Chatfield. In the fall they set up a cron maze through part of it. During the holiday season, they decorate the trees with thousands of lights There are old farm buildings and equipment. They grow herbs and vegetables, There are a few goats, chickens and a few ponies. It is perfect for a relaxing walk.
A quick trip to the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder to see their tulips. So tall and large flowers. Just beautiful. One of the many reasons I love Spring.
Seems everyone had the same idea last weekend on a colol, windy spring day. Let's all go to the aquarium. It was nice and warm in there and the beauty of all the different fish and sea life was perfect. Even got to see the two tigers and I was thrilled when the one woke up long enough to look at me.
Out of the over 100 pictures I took, these are just a few of them The one fish really was huge, abut the size of an office chair.
Since I was asked about the eagle that the warrior is catching, I took some better pictures of him. Once again the detail is amazing. The last two photos are of the first completed tree sculpture. I will try to get more detailed pictures of this one too as well as it's title.
Just within the last week, Colorado has had its first official wildfire of the season. Very early to be having this already. So the slurry bombers were called out. Luckily, the local airport that they take off from is not far from my house. I never realized how big these slurry bombers are. I also never realized the fog they put out when they are first started either. The very last picture is the plane getting ready to take off after he almost blew me away turing to taxi down the runway.
In the town of Niwot sit three dead trees. These trees are being turned into beautiful works of art. One tree was completed 3 years ago. The second tree is currently being carved. I got to watch the artist at work. The detail he puts into each one is simply amazing.
